What can be protected as a utility model?

Smaller products that can be used commercially and that represent a solution to a technical problem can be protected as a utility model. The purpose of the utility model protection is to make it possible to protect smaller inventions that do not meet the requirements for patent protection.

This does however not mean that all smaller products that can obtain utility model protection cannot obtain patent protection. The requirements for inventive steps for patents are just stricter than with regard to applications for utility model protection.
